My Pakistani love affair

You may wonder how can there ever be in the same sentence love affair and Pakistan. Most of my friends and family still do not understand it and never will, in fact, I sometimes do not understand it; but then I look back and remember.

Yes, the pakiland may not be the a touristic destination at all (besides maybe the K2 for the adventurers), it is not exactly pretty at first sight, most people are not exactly very open to tourists, it is just not easy to be Pakistani.

But I must tell you, that deep inside, it has become part of me, and I will never get over it. You are not expected to understand it though, you did not live there, but let me tell you, that deep inside Pakistan is a one magical, historical, especial and bright country.

It does not matter the many bomb blasts and terrorist attacks that happened while I lived there, it does not matter the lack of gas, electricity and water; as humans we are programmed to survive no matter what, in the heat, in the cold, in the rain, in the drought.

I look back to all the good friends I made there and that are still somehow present in my life, through their music, through their thoughts, through their lovely messages, and it does not matter if they do not look as me, if their color of their skin is darker than mine, friends will never care for such Little things.

In my dreams, I go back there and smell the air, the flowers of the spring, the curry in the kitchens; I hear the sound of the rickshaws roaring all over the city and the power generators during loadshedding; I eat again my favourite dishes and drink the chai made my left handed friend in his very own special recipee.

I remember the colorful weddings I attended, the mistycal accent of their people while speaking in English for me, their stories and their hopes of life; their hardworking efforts, and most especially the love I received from my now friends.

Nobody expects to love Pakistan, but you will surely fall in love with the real Pakista once you get to know its magical northern landscapes, its millenary traditions, and their amazing people.
